Leisure Outlet welcomes Thermacell, a new brand of us and for the UK! Originally an American brand Thermacell has been proven popular and now spreading their knowledge and product range through Europe.

So what do Thermacell do? Thermacell has one objective, they offer us campers, hikers and homeowners portable and easy to use solutions that provide us with mosquito and midge free zones. Though a range of products from Portable Mosquito Repellers (such as the MR300) to Camping Lanterns with built-in mosquito repellent functionality (such as the Scout or the Bristol Lanterns) we can all enjoy the great outdoors with that extra comfort – whether dining at the campsite or dining on the patio at home.

Each product is designed to provide a 15 x 15-foot zone of protection against mosquitos and midges - protect you and everyone around in a 20m² area. No need to use smelly, harmful sprays or oily lotions! Thermacell technology uses heat uses heat to disperse a repellent into the air creating a zone of protection from those unwelcomed mosquitoes, midges and other small flying insects. Other than the Thermacell Backpacker, each Mosquito Repeller you would simply insert the repellent mat, insert a butane cartridge and turn on the device. The Backpacker Mosquito Repeller still uses the repellent mats but, runs off standard camping gas canisters (isobutane / propane fuel mix).

Silent in use, no exposed flame and odourless are three benefits of using a Thermacell Mosquito Repeller, with no exposed flames makes Thermacell Repellers that much safer for family camping.

Testing:

Scientific testing has been done on the Thermacell Mosquito Repellent unit for effectiveness against mosquitoes and other biting insects. The following entities carried out field tests on four continents in areas of high infestation:

• The Department of Defense, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Korea
• Hacettepe University – SE Anatolia of Turkey
• Scientific Coordination, Inc., in Maine, USA

Findings for Mosquitos, Sand Flies and No-See-Ums

Findings for Black Files:

• Protection is greatest 3.75 feet away from the unit, where 79% protection was provided
• The test conducted by Scientific Coordination in Maine was done under windy conditions
• The report states that in no-wind conditions, the protection level would most likely have been higher
