Unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest-growing type of waste. Often, electrical equipment ends up in landfills across the country, leaking out hazardous substances and causing soil and water contamination. This harms not only the planet but also wildlife and human beings, and many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, helping to save natural resources and the environment.
If you are buying a new battery with us, you can recycle your old battery for free.
If you bring in your battery, we are happy to take it and recycle it for you. Unfortunately, we cannot accept batteries by post, but you can find your local recycling centre at www.recyclenow.com.
And if you’re purchasing new electrical items from Leisure Outlet we’re more than happy to take your old one in for recycling. We cannot accept electrical items by post, but you can drop them off during opening hours. Call us on 0115 967 8700 to arrange a time for dropping off your electrical items.
The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of electrical or electronic waste items. In the UK, distributors (including retailers) must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. Those establishing their own take-back scheme must, as a minimum, offer all customers buying new electrical equipment free take-back of their old electrical on a like-for-like basis.
To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment into your bin.
