We ask ourselves, what is a Technical Tent? Firstly, Technical Tents are also known as 'Climate Tents'. In layman's terms, a Technical Tent is a tent that is suitable for camping in warmer weather climates, the ideal tent for touring couples, or families, that long for the sun.
So, what makes a Technical Tent better equipped for hotter climates? In short, it is simply down to the tent's material. These tents offer a cooler interior, making the outdoor living that much more comfortable.
Conventional tents that 98% of us are familiar with are made from 100% polyester, the density of the weave differs suiting active campers that looking for lightness to family, to group camping who require a stronger material for multi-day pitching.
However, Climate Tents are produced from a blend of polyester and cotton. The blend of two materials is normally weighted at 35% polyester, to 65% cotton. This gives users, what is known as a 'Polycotton Cotton Tent', but 'cotton rich' for perfect living conditions in warmer climates. Campers experience the benefits of both materials, the strength, water-resistance, weather-resistance of polyester, married with the softness, breathability, and sound dampening that comes with cotton.
100% polyester tents will perform in warmer climates; however, the living area can get clammy, or stuffy, very quickly should you not utilise the tent's ventilation points, mesh doors, and naturally a poor airflow. For pets, children and adults who can't tolerate the heat as well, then this is exactly why Polycotton Technical Tents are favourable for camping abroad. Just by leaving a polycotton tent left on its own devices, the outer canvas is able to channel air in, around and out of the tent; far more porous compared to solid polyester structures.
We also find Technical Tents perform well in winter, you get the warmth and softness of cotton along with weather performing properties of polyester. Dampness on a polycotton tent swells the fabric and therefore retaining the warmth inside.
Polycotton tents or tipis are often used at festivals, as they dampen external sound, offer a cooler interior and also, they are a favourite amongst glampers as they ooze luxury and comfort.
